# MCP server

Manage projects, API keys, policies, and usage from your AI assistant.

## Connect

Sign in with your Abliteration account and choose an organization. No API key is required.

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Codex">
    ```sh theme={"system"}
    codex mcp add abliteration --url \
      https://api.abliteration.ai/mcp
    codex mcp login abliteration
    ```

    Complete sign-in in your browser, then start a new Codex conversation. Run `/mcp` in the Codex CLI to check the connection.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Claude Code">
    ```sh theme={"system"}
    claude mcp add --transport http \
      --scope user abliteration \
      https://api.abliteration.ai/mcp
    ```

    Open Claude Code, run `/mcp`, and select **abliteration** to sign in.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Claude">
    1. Open **Customize > Connectors** and select **Add > Add custom connector**.
    2. Name it **Abliteration** and enter this server URL:

    ```text theme={"system"}
    https://api.abliteration.ai/mcp
    ```

    3. Complete OAuth sign-in and enable the connector in your conversation.

    On managed plans, an administrator may need to add the connector first. See [Claude's connector setup](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11175166-get-started-with-custom-connectors-using-remote-mcp).
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Cursor">
    Add this entry to `~/.cursor/mcp.json`, alongside any existing servers:

    ```json theme={"system"}
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "abliteration": {
          "url": "https://api.abliteration.ai/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
    ```

    Enable **abliteration** in Cursor's MCP settings and sign in. The tools are available in Agent chat.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Try it

```text theme={"system"}
List my Abliteration projects.
```

## Authentication

The connection uses your current role in the organization you selected at sign-in. Review tool calls before approving changes.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Permissions by role">
    | Role | Access |
    | - | - |
    | Owner or admin | All management tools |
    | Billing | Read organization details, projects, balances, usage, costs, and spend limits; manage spend limits |
    | Other members | Read organization details and projects |

    Creating an API key returns a secret. Store it securely and keep it out of shared conversations.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Reconnect or change organizations">
    Your client refreshes authorization to keep you connected. If authorization expires, sign in again. To change organizations, reconnect and select the organization you want to use.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Rate limits

If a request is rate-limited, wait for the delay in `Retry-After` or the tool error's `retry_after_seconds` before retrying.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Default request limits per minute">
    Each management call counts against both your user budget and the shared organization budget.

    | Operation | Per user | Per organization |
    | - | -: | -: |
    | Reads | 120 | 600 |
    | Usage and cost queries | 30 | 120 |
    | Changes, including Project API keys | 30 | 100 |
    | Admin API-key creation and revocation | 10 | 30 |

    Up to 5 management calls can run concurrently per user and 20 per organization. The MCP endpoint also limits requests to 300 per minute per IP address. Additional connection limits can restrict bursts.

    Organization budgets are shared with [Administration API](/administration/overview) calls. Signing in again or using another client does not reset your user budget.

    Model-inference request and token limits are separate. See [API rate limits](/api/rate-limits).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Retry a request">
    * Honor the retry delay. If none is provided, use exponential backoff with jitter.
    * Cap retry attempts and total retry time.
    * For changes, reuse the original `idempotencyKey` where supported. Do not automatically retry an operation whose result is uncertain.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Cannot connect">
    Use `https://api.abliteration.ai/mcp` and enable the server in your client. The client must support remote MCP over Streamable HTTP and OAuth.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Sign-in required or 401">
    Reconnect through your client's OAuth sign-in flow.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Permission denied or 403">
    Check the connected organization and ask an owner or admin to confirm your role.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Resource not found">
    Check the resource ID. If you connected to a different organization, reconnect and select the organization that owns the resource.
  </Accordion>
